Barry Reese

  • A Milledgeville native, Barry Reese is a librarian and a writer of some of the most fun and addictive pulpy prose you’ll ever pick up. In 2003, Barry got his start working for Marvel Comics on volume five of their Marvel Encyclopedia series, but soon saw the publication of his first novel, “Conquerors of Shadow,” featuring a setting and character inspired by the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. He produced a collection of stories featuring the Rook with Wild Cat Books.

In January 2010, Wild Cat Books released “Rabbit Heart,” a slasher-horror novel with pulp underpinnings. This was the first work in Reese’s career to be labeled “For Mature Readers.” Rabbit Heart is set entirely in Reese’s hometown of Milledgeville, Georgia and eventually won him recognition at the 2011 Pulp Art Awards with nominations for Best Book, Best Author, Best Short Story and Best Pulp Revival. Barry took home the prize for Best Author. He followed the success of “Rabbit Heart” with “The Damned Thing,” about the search for a cursed object in 1939 Atlanta.
